The team comprises search and rescue specialists, including 60 people, four search dogs and rescue equipment, as well as a medical assessment team. The UK International Search and Rescue (UKISAR) team was deployed through the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and comprises staff from 14 fire and rescue services.
UKISAR is part of the National Fire Chiefs Council’s National Resilience Work and is on permanent standby to mobilise and assist when requested by disaster-affected countries.
The Chair of the National Fire Chiefs Council, Mark Hardingham, said, “The thoughts of the UK’s fire and rescue services are with all those affected by the devastating earthquake in Morocco. The UK team will provide specialist technical support where it is needed most to save lives and support local emergency service teams.” (Source: Emergency Services Times)
