  • Ann McDermott – Community Paramedic (National Ambulance Service)
  • Damien Gaumont – Critical Care Paramedic (National Ambulance Service)
  • Dorett Fuelgraff – Community First Responder (Killarney CFR)

International Paramedics Day was first created, organised and run by the College of Paramedics in the UK in 2022, with support from professional paramedic organisations from around the world. It takes place on 8 July every year to mark the birthday of Dominique-Jean Larrey – the man often referred to as the ‘father of modern-day ambulance services’.

The theme for International Paramedics’ Day 2023 – What Paramedics Do – aims to showcase the diversity of roles and the range of settings in which paramedics work, and to improve awareness and understanding of the profession.  Whilst a relatively young profession, paramedicine is growing rapidly with a wide range of paramedic roles undertaken in different fields.

All practising paramedics, students and educators, research fellows, leaders and managers, first responders and community volunteers are now invited to come together online on Saturday 8 July and tell the world what they do and where, by posting on their Facebook pages, Instagram or Twitter accounts, using #WhatParamedicsDo and #IPD2023.

The event can be followed on Twitter @Paramedicsday. Paramedics may also upload their own short written case study or video for use on the International Paramedics Day website and social media channels.
