Aug 31, 2023 | Nationwide News

The 2023 campaign for the position of Recruit Prison Officer has been launched by the Irish Prison Service in a bid to recruit up to 250 Recruit Prison Officers this year, with an additional 300 in 2024.

The Public Appointments Service is running the competition on behalf of the Irish Prison Service. According to Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee the Irish Prison Service has a proud tradition of serving communities, keeping people safe and ensuring safe and secure custody to those in their care.

“In return for that commitment, it is the Government’s role to support the work of the Irish Prison Service in building safer, stronger communities, and I am committed to providing that support to those who work to keep our communities safe,” she added.

The last recruitment competition in 2022 received over 2,000 applications. The 2023 Recruit Prison Officer Competition closes on Thursday 28 September.

Caron McCaffrey, Director General of the Irish Prison Service added, “The 2023 Recruit Prison Officer competition demonstrates our continued commitment to increasing the workforce. Through campaigns such as the Recruit Prison Officer Competition, the Irish Prison Service aims to attract individuals who possess the qualities of empathy, resilience, and dedication necessary to thrive in this challenging yet rewarding profession. This is an opportunity to join a dedicated team of professionals committed to promoting rehabilitation, community safety, and the principles of our justice system.”
