Declan Keogh managed and co-ordinated the road safety conference, which brought together various road safety professionals, stakeholders, businesses and collision responders to discuss all aspects of road safety in terms of engineering & design, policing & enforcement, collision response & prevention, education & promotion, data & technology and walking, cycling and active travel. Guest speakers, delegates and exhibitors travelled to Kerry from across Ireland, the UK, New Zealand, France and Estonia.
Every branch of the road safety tree was represented at the event, the aim of which was to provide a platform for everyone to engage with one another and to discuss how people can work together to improve, educate and enforce road safety, reduce traffic-related incidents, build and maintain safer roads, and to share experiences, knowledge and best practices for a safer road and safer journeys.
“A huge word of thanks to everyone involved in the planning, preparation and delivery of the safer roads conference. My colleagues Vincent Foley, James Feely, Michael Munnelly, John Joe Canty, Margaret O’Sullivan, Rhiannon Sheehy, Michelle O’Sullivan, Donagh Fahy, Jemma Walsh and Gearóid Cournane for helping to ensure its safe running, to Eimear Ní Bhraonáin for her professional advice, guidance and MC service and Breffní Ingerton, Jadwiga Surmiak and the staff of the Gleneagle Arena (INEC) in Killarney.
“Thanks to Alastair de Beer from Transport Infrastructure Ireland for his and TII’s support in particular, and a special word of thanks to Kerry County Council’s Director of Service Frank M. Hartnett, Senior Engineer Fiona O’Neill and Senior Executive Engineer Brian O’Connor, for their invaluable support, engagement and encouragement from the beginning to the end,” Keogh noted.
Next year’s ‘Safer Roads’ Road Safety Conference will take place on 11 and 12 March 2026.
