NI AIR AMBULANCE ‘BELFAST CITY AIRPORT RUNWAY RUN’ RETURNS

Mar 21, 2025 | UK News

The Belfast City Airport 5km Runway Run, which raised over £60,000 for Air Ambulance Northern Ireland, and attracted 500 runners to take part in the inaugural event in 2024, returns in June for the second year running.

The Air Ambulance Runway Run 2025 will take place on Wednesday 11 June, giving runners of all abilities the chance to complete 5km on Belfast City Airport’s runway while raising vital funds in support of the lifesaving services provided by Air Ambulance NI, which has teamed up with Belfast City Airport and Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure for the second year in a row.

The air ambulance service costs £2.5m annually to operate, according to Colleen Milligan, Business Development & Project Manager at Air Ambulance NI. “Every step taken by the runners helps to ensure the medical team can reach those in need, delivering urgent pre-hospital care when and where it matters most. Our service relies entirely on public support, and this is a fantastic way for the community to come together, have fun and help us continue to provide critical care across Northern Ireland,” she added.

Last year’s event saw 500 runners take part and raised over £60,000 for Air Ambulance NI (Belfast City Airport’s Charity Partner for 2024/2025)/ Michelle Hatfield, Chief People and Marketing Officer at Belfast City Airport, added: “The success of last year’s runway run showed how deeply this cause resonates with our staff, partners and the wider public.”

Steve Turner, Managing Director at Lagan Aviation & Infrastructure, said: “As a long-standing supporter of Air Ambulance NI, Lagan Aviation is dedicated to supporting initiatives that enhance community wellbeing, and we look forward to contributing to the life-saving efforts of Air Ambulance NI. This event not only offers a unique experience for participants but also supports the vital work of Air Ambulance NI. Its critical emergency response is crucial for our community, and we’re proud to help Air Ambulance NI continue its invaluable mission.”
