The new Chair of the Airport Fire Officers’ Association (AFOA), Barry Alderslade, took office for a one-year term in October, having succeeded longstanding AFOA Chair Simon Petts, while Kieran Merriman, CFO at BAE Systems, and Simon Lane, Deputy CFO at Airbus in Broughton have agreed to join the AFOA Committee from 2023.
The appointments were announced in Birmingham’s NEC at the Association’s 2022 AGM, held on the first day of the Emergency Services Show on 21 September.
AFOA plans to return to its traditional two-day conference format, with up to 250 delegates and up to 20 exhibiting organisations at an event to be held in late March of 2023. Formed in 1988. the Airport Fire Officers’ Association is a technical body, dedicated to promoting and maintaining the professional image and status of Airport Fire Services within the United Kingdom and Ireland, ensuring continued communications between them, through an on-going dialogue of knowledge and best practice on all relevant technical and operational matters. Membership is open to airport fire officers of all ranks as well as local authority liaison officers, manufacturers, training providers and equipment suppliers with whom AFOA regularly collaborates on projects.
