RNLI Area Operations Manager Amy O’Connor said that this role “would be brilliant for an enthusiastic, community-minded individual who wants to make a difference. If you are a team player with a willingness to learn new skills, this opportunity could be excellent for you”.
She added that it’s an opportunity “to lead the operations team at Lough Ree RNLI and work with a very dedicated team of volunteers on the lifeboat and ashore”.
Kevin Ganly (left) joined Lough Ree RNLI as a volunteer in 2021 and took on the voluntary role of Lifeboat Operations Manager in March 2022. A former member of An Garda Siochana, Kevin brought policing skills to his role leading the RNLI on Lough Ree.
On his watch the new €1.2m boathouse was commissioned and officially opened in 2022. Since then, it has served as a valuable resource for RNLI volunteers at Lough Ree, RNLI crews from around the country who have used it as a training base, and as a visitor attraction for groups and schools across the Midlands.
As he leaves the role, Kevin Ganly said: “As someone who has his roots on Inchturk Island of Lough Ree it has been great to be part of such a wonderful charity in the community. The generous commitment of the volunteers to training and assisting those in difficulty is inspiring. None of this work could be achieved without the great support of the public and the local communities around Lough Ree.’
