Taking place on Saturday 19 October at the Hilton Lake Las Vegas Resort and Spa, the 48-mile relay will once again be hosted by the California Police Athletic Federation (CPAF), a non-profit organisation committed to promoting sport and physical fitness among first responders.
According to Jim King, CPAF President, “The First Responders Relay serves as a pivotal event for these dedicated athletes to converge, promote physical fitness, and advocate for overall health and wellness.
“The annual relay can be therapeutic for our first responders, offering a well-deserved break from the pressures of the job and fostering a sense of camaraderie and accomplishment outside of work duties.”
The 48-mile relay will start and finish at the Hilton Las Vegas Resort and Spa, concluding with an award ceremony to honour the fastest team, who will receive The Duke Nyhus/Bob Burke perpetual trophy, recognising their exceptional athleticism and commitment to personal fitness. Athletes can register here up to 18 September.
The relay is divided into nine categories – Open Division, Mixed Division, Women’s Division, Senior Division, 500 Division, 250 Division, Station/Division, Support Services Division, and Support Services Mixed Division. Support categories are open to all support personnel including 911 Dispatchers, Detention-Custodial Officers, Crime Scene Investigators, Lifeguards, Reserve Officers, and Volunteer Firefighters.
To be eligible, participants must be publicly employed full-time and retirees while separated employees with over 10 years of service must show proof. More information on division and eligibility requirements can be found here.
The First Responders Relay is one of four events hosted by the CPAF, in addition to the bi-annual World Police & Fire Games, the US Police & Fire Championships and the North American Fall Classic which debuted in 2023. For more information visit www.cpaf.org
